ROOMS
Castle wardrobes and secretaires, vast oak beds with ornately
carved gothic headboards, Victorian commodes, inlaid tables
and original oak panelling have all been restored in these
rooms which were once home to a magistrate, an architect,
a surgeon and a master baker to name a few of the original
inhabitants. None of them could have dreamt of creature comforts
such as room service, e-mail, satellite TV, hot and cold running
water or even clean sheets. But then history is always more
appealing when it has been cleaned up a bit.
DINING
Conservatory - the hotel's sitting room leads into
a small courtyard garden. Light refreshments and breakfast
are served here (or in your bedroom) and guests can help themselves
to drinks from the honesty bar.
AMENITIES
& SERVICES
The Rookery has the atmosphere of a private club, appealing
enormously to visitors doing business in the square mile.
The oak panelled Library can be booked for meetings over breakfast,
lunch and dinner.
Delicious breakfast croissants are baked on the premises,
though not in the 18th century bread ovens which still survive
below stairs.
